Poble Sec, the new area to discover in Barcelona

If you have already visited Barcelona, you have probably walked around the areas of Gòtic, Born and Barceloneta, some of the most touristic ones and also the ones located in the centre of the city.

What you probably didn’t know is that all of those areas are becoming more and more touristic, and sometimes you need a little help to find those places that still are authentic and valued by the Barcelona citizens.

In that sense, there are so much more neighborhoods to discover in the city. And one of them is definitely Poble Sec, an area also very close to the centre (between Paral·lel Avenue and the mountain of Montjuic), that has maintained its traditional atmosphere but also has increased a lot its leisure and gastronomic offer over the past few years.

One of the most amazing things about Poble Sec is how the neighborhood managed to retain a strong sense of identity despite its increasingly multi-cultural makeup. There you can walk around and find great restaurants, traditional bars and small little shops and supermarkets.

Here are some of the spots you can’t miss on a day around the area:

·As you may already read on this blog, starting the day with a breakfast at Hotel Brummel might be the perfect choice. Its terrace, along with its decoration and the quality of its menu make it the best option. You can know more about it here.

·Another spot worth visiting is Quimet Quimet, a traditional bar (it is a classic of the city) where you can enjoy the traditional vermut (kind of a Catalan Martini) along with some very good tapas.

·If you feel like walking around, don’t miss Plaça del Sortidor and Carrer Blai, two of the most crowded spots in the area. Full of good choices to have a meal, they also maintain that traditional spirit.

·Another one of our favorites is Koska Taverna, a bar inspired by the classical ones in the north of Spain where you can enjoy not only the best Spanish omelette in the city but also an amazing Galician octopus and much more.

·Finally, if you want to try something different, Pakta (the new adventure of Adrià brothers) will allow you to try a fusion between Mexican and Peruvian cuisine, all with the twist of creative cuisine.

·And if you feel like spending a day surrounded by art, you can’t miss Caixaforum or Fundació Joan Miró, where you will be able to see the most amazing collection about this famous Catalan painter.
